If inflation and gas prices have you crying inside, or if you're just lazy like me, you can still survive the summer months without going to a museum every other day.
Here are some options that might push back those tantrums a few more hours, or at least until your spouse is off work, and you can go hide in your room. Again, kids are easily impressed so soak up all the praise for these "fun" ideas while it lasts.
1. Pitch a Tent in your Living Room
- Throw some books and toys in there and let them go crazy for the day.
- Caution: requires knowledge of pitching a tent.
2. Go Swimming
- Most neighborhoods in Arizona have community pools, but taking advantage of friends and family with one in their backyard is also exciting.
- Caution: If your kids are anything like mine, then you MUST bring snacks.
3. Go to a Splash Pad
- This is obviously similar to swimming, but usually does not require the parent to get wet. Therefore, this is my much preferred option.
- There are several public splash pads around Gilbert and Queen Creek.
- Caution: BRING SNACKS
4. Play Doh
- I'm sure this is a daily staple for many families, but for our house, this is a special occasion.
- Caution: You will find dry play doh in random places around your house for days afterwards. Accept this.
5. Have a Play Date
- I am fortunate to have several neighbors that have kids similar in age to mine, but if you don't, try the Peanut app or go knock on some doors!
- Caution: Your playroom will never be the same again.
6. Go to a McDonald's Play Place
- You can't beat a classic. Drink that Dr. Pepper in peace. You deserve it.
- Caution: You won't be able to shake the thought that they are rubbing their bodies around in germs, but that's what baths are for, right?
